Sometimes, friendships – creative or otherwise – reach an ending. But how do you know when you’ve reached this point? When is it time to break up with an unsupportive friend or perhaps a writing group that doesn’t work for you, even if you enjoy their company?
Ask yourself – Where do I want to be in five years or ten? Where will I be if I don’t make any changes? If there’s a gap between an extension of the status quo and where you want to be, it’s time to consider changing your present.
You don’t have to cut off contact completely and you don’t need to leave on an unkind note. But you should start to make room for people, groups, and relationships that nurture your creativity. And you can start by severing ties that no longer serve you.
