Does the way your protagonist spends their time and money reflect their values? Or is there a conflict between what they say they want and what they actually do?
As you delve into character, make a list of the items on which your protagonist spends the most money. Make a second list of things they spend time doing that bring them the most satisfaction.
Is there an overlap? Do they spend a lot of money on things – like a car – and then also spend much of their time with it? Or do they spend a lot most of their money on necessities and their time on leisure or self-improvement?
Where a person expends their resources is a key to their goals and motivations, and possibly their backstory and emotional wounds.
